‘Babylon Fields’ coming to CBS
CBS picks up ‘Babylon’
CBS: Pickup — “Babylon Fields,” an hourlong zombie-themed hour described by CBS as a “sardonic, apocalyptic American comedy-drama where the dead are rising and as a result, lives are regained, families restored and old wounds reopened.” Gerald Cuesta and Michael Atkinson wrote the pilot and will serve as supervising producers. Michael Cuesta, who directed the pilot for “Dexter,” will exec produce and helm via 20th Century Fox Television.

Ooh! This sounds like fun. It’s been described as Desperate Housewives with zombies. While reading I realized it may be based on the French film, They Came Back or Les Revenants which wasn’t terrible movie, although not the usual gory zombie fare.
The series is scheduled to premiere on CBS on June 1st, 2007.

I actually stumbled across the set of Babylon Fields because we were caught in the traffic on the road they were closing for the scenes. It seems that the set and crew of this show have been working the BALDWIN, New York area, closing down streets all over the place. Yesterday, March 29, they had closed down a major road going N-S in the town up until 6:30. I know because I was there.
Now the scene was being wetted down to look like it had rained, It was actually sunny, very windy and in the 50’s. The store front to the flower shop was trashed and I was standing next to a crew member named Courtney when the flowers were flying and being thrown around by crew members. The black sports car, no where near as close to the pole as it looks. After about a half an hour of watching the signs over the stores change from Baldwin to Babylon it was interesting. I walked across the street and few minutes later out came about a dozen or so zombies from a small van. They were sent slowly into an empty building being prepped for the scene. It was odd seeing men and women walking around, smoking cigarettes, leaning against walls, talking at the bus stop,(probably not part of the scene)just complaining about one of the other ‘zombie’ women and HER complaining about everything else. It was fun to see the behind the scenes. Boy, do people TALK. If you are nice, you can ask just about anything and they ANSWER you CREW and Actors.
How did I ‘happen’ across all of this silliness, well actually a very sad note, there is a funeral home just around the corner, Fullerton, where my aunt’s service was being held that same day. I needed a break from all of the death and dying I had been around the past two weeks only to stumble onto a ZOMBIE set. The universe sure has a twisted sense of humor.
